We all need to touch and be touched
But we can go without it
Sometimes for so long that we forget
That softness we once clung to
Hides behind necessary sharpness now
Bites and scratches instead of caress
“Move over, you invasive species!”
Bob says to us
He was arrested for having his feet up on a train seat
It’s obviously a fetish
As no one can sit on this bench next to those socks
In here we are all guilty of such petty crimes
I ask the guard what time I will be called
He shrugs so that his shiny badges jump on his shirt
I have a wife and a daughter
There are pillows at home
That thought makes me laugh
As I walk up and down
Muffling my steps on the concrete floor of the cell
Only eating their apples
Offering my sandwich to Bob
I have been here before
But never so sick
It will be the last time
Inside bars for me
I will fly tomorrow forever
Definitely moving and relatable. The last line is a surprise. 😮 Is it meant to shock you and inspire an emotional response? I like it!😊☘️
I liked the 'jauntiness' of this poem, then the last line that really stops you..
